Speaking to Leon Byner on Wednesday, Wayne praised the hospital and its medical staff, but said the food was appalling.

“I’m pretty sure I had food poisoning two days in a row,” he said. “With the evening meal it didn’t taste right, but I ate it.

“I woke up this morning from dinner last night -- raging headache, I wasn’t feeling very well and I threw the entire dinner up.

“The company that’s doing the kitchen they should absolutely lose their contract. The food is appalling… there is no other word for it.”

In response to Wayne’s call, Leon Byner said:

“I don’t know whether Wayne had food poisoning or not -- I don’t know and you can’t know…

“But I think it’s fair to say that we’ve had reasonable evidence to suggest that the standard of food being served up appears to be very much inferior to what was advertised.”

Wayne’s claim comes as another listener says she wasn’t fed for three days because her allergies were “too hard”.

She says the meals she has received were inadequate, including one occasion when she received a dish lid only and no food…

“Was offered 2 small 20g blocks of cheese.

“Yesterday I was supposed to receive a croissant for breakfast…..all I got was butter and honey!”

The latest complaints follow reports last month patients at the new hospital were “disgusted” with the food they were receiving.
