Local Labor MP Steve Georganas has told FIVEaa’s Leon Byner that a new submarine contract signed by the federal government does not “guarantee any Australian industry content at all”.

Premier Steven Marshall was in Canberra on Monday for the signing of the new deal.

Mr Georganas said on Tuesday:

“Today we found out through media reports that the government has signed the submarine deal and it doesn’t guarantee any Australian industry content at all.

“Before the election we were told that more than 90 per cent of the work would be done in Australia and today we see that a deal has been signed that has absolutely no guarantee that any Australian industry content at all within the build of the submarines.

“This is worrying because the majority could be done overseas.”
