The state Labor opposition has announced it will setup an enquiry into the proposed hotel development at Adelaide Oval, as well as the overall management of the oval.

“We’ve just endorsed a move to establish a select committee into this hotel development,” shadow treasurer Stephen Mullighan told FIVEaa’s Leon Byner on Tuesday, “but also into how the Adelaide Oval is being run and managed at the moment.”

“It seems that the current justification for this hotel development is that the Stadium Management Authority, which runs the oval, apparently -- we’re being told -- they need to make some more money. They need to raise more revenue.

“I think most people who see the tens of thousands of people going to events at Adelaide Oval might be scratching their heads thinking what’s happened to all the money that’s already been generated there and why hasn’t enough of that been kept aside?

“Taxpayers should be very worried.”
