People fined for driving in a bus lane during the Anzac Hwy trial -- now ditched by the government -- are eligible to get their money back.

“It can be unpaid,” Adelaide lawyer Michael Woods told Leon Byner on Thursday.

“The legislation is there, it’s been there for a long time. In my experience it’s not utilised as often as it should be.

“Clearly if the government have deicide it was a cautioning period… it should not have been issued.”

Channel 7’s Mike Smithson said he had seen one fine given to a driver during the trial period, but said it seemed “unbelievable it could only be one”.

“It would either be none because police would have followed that instruction to the letter,” he said… “I’m guessing they pulled over hundreds if not thousands of people over the six month trial period.”

“It just seems unbelievable that one person on one day would get a fine and be booked. It seems inconceivable.”
