Get Ready To Pay For Parking At All Adelaide Beaches

Adelaide residents need to keep an “open mind” about paying for car parking at all beaches, says the Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor.

Gary Johanson says his council has no plans to start charging, but it could happen in the future.

“We have to face facts,” Mayor Johanson told Leon Byner on Wednesday. “We are a growing community and the beach fronts are our prime resource in terms of visitors to our great state on many occasions… people come here for a our beautiful pristine beaches and there is a limit too how much they can cope with in the prime areas.”

“People must keep an open mind on this. I don’t see this as a fund raising thing, more a way of regulating so everyone has a fair chance to get near the beach with their car.

“Imagine if you’ve got the same vehicle parked in the one spot all day not moving and the people aren’t even at the beach or the local businesses.

“We’re seeing a lot of that with campervans… imagine if you had 20 or 30 of these vans.”
