EXCLUSIVE -- A local member is calling on Christians to pray against the euthanasia bill before state parliament.

Headed "Prayers needed," emails obtained by FIVEaa reveal member for Newland Tom Kenyon has been urging churchgoers to take a stand against the bill.

“This is literally a matter of life and death,” Mr Kenyon told FIVEaa brekky...

“We’re talking about whether the state will become involved in the killing of its citizens or not.”

LISTEN HERE:

“As Christians, our calling is to follow the example of Christ, and at no point did Christ ever kill anyone.

“Every time he encountered someone who was sick he healed them, he even brought people back from the dead. That’s what we believe. As Christians we can’t support euthanasia.

“Prayers are a very powerful thing and we’re trying to achieve a goal here which is the defeat of this bill. Christians can pray about anything they want… from finding a car park to something as important as euthanasia.

“Christians and other religions make up a good chunk of our society, you can’t separate them out and say you guys don’t count. They have legitimate views on these bills and asking them to be involved in the political debate is a good thing.

“The emails actually ask people to pray for the defeat of the bill. It wasn’t asking people to lobby, although I think they should, and if they choose to do so that would be excellent.”
