Workers in an Adelaide warehouse reportedly only learned they had lost their jobs when their headsets stopped working.

FIVEaa Breakfast’s David Penberthy said during Wednesday’s Breaking @ 8 segment:

“Concerning news about a raft of job losses in Adelaide this week at Metcash -- the distribution company that services many of the local Foodlands and IGAs here in Adelaide as well as interstate.

“We’ve been tipped off that this week 17 fulltime staff and 24 casual warehouse staff were either made redundant or told they don’t have a position at Metcash anymore…

“What is ordinary is the manner in which these Metcash workers were told of their fate this week.

“Apparently the automated headset system which gives warehouse workers their next job on the floor was disconnected for the workers that were about to lose their jobs. That led them to go to the office to get it fixed where they were met with the bad news, which is a pretty rank way to treat people.”
