Aussie can’t afford to become complacent 15 years on from the Bali bombing, says a reporter who landed on the ground in Kuta only hours after the shocking terror attack.

“The scene in Kuta that day that we got there, it was just absolutely horrendous. Devastating,” Colin James told FIVEaa on Thursday.

“The street that the Sari Club and Paddy’s Bar [were on] was basically completely blown apart. The Sari Club was still burning and they were still lifting bodies out when we got there on Sunday… it was bedlam.

What I wrote today was to try and remind people this incident happened --that a lot of people lost their lives…

“I don’t think that we should forget. So much has happened since and I think we’re stating to get a bit desensitised with all this stuff -- it’s happened in Nice, it’s happened in Paris, it’s happened in London."

“Terrorism has now unfortunately become a reality that we have to live with...

“We need to be aware that we live in an age now were for some reason Islamic fundamentalists want to take us on.

“[Bali] was really the start for Australia of our first exposure after 9/11 of what Islamic terrorists want to do to us and our way of life.”
