FIVEaa’s David Penberthy has revealed international students are “jumping the queue” into Adelaide High after the school’s local enrolment zone was reduced in size last month.

Penbo said during Tuesday’s Breaking @ 8 segment:

“My understanding is that there are some 90 international students attending Adelaide High School.

“If you’re a Chinese engineer or a Malaysian nurse or anyone from any other country other than Australia and you come to Adelaide on a three-year contract, say… you get to pick which state school you want your child to go to and it doesn’t matter what zone you are in.

“So the children of people who are here on working visas from overseas can pick the school and I tell you they aren’t picking whatever Daws Road High is called these days, they’re picking Adelaide High, and also Glenunga, but particularly Adelaide High.

“They’re effectively jumping the queue on local kids.

“Having broken that bit of information I think it’s worth having a discussion as a community… we’ve got a system where people in the western suburbs are being told, sorry, you’re not allowed to send your kids to Adelaide High anymore.”
