A state government taskforce has revealed a new Women’s and Children’s Hospital will be built on land immediately west of the new RAH and connected to it by an air bridge, but won’t reveal a ballpark figure for the new project.

“I could, but I won’t,” taskforce chair Jim Birch told FIVEaa breakfast on Tuesday. “This is going to be a cabinet in confidence issue, which they’ll have to consider in the new year.”

“It’s not for me to tell you, it’s for the government to tell you. I’m but a servant of the government. We have a fair idea what the cost will be but we have to deliver a final report to government…”

Health Minister Stephen Wade later told Leon Byner he could not give a ‘ball park’ cost but said it would be “affordable”.

“That’s still being worked on but I can assure you it is far less than what Labor was suggesting… there’s a range of costings that need to be finalised but we’re confident it is affordable.”
