David & Will Grill Ollie Wines About The Chances Of A Late AFL Call Up

Aug 9, 2019

Co-captain Ollie Wines has been listed as an emergency for Port Adelaide’s clash with Sydney in Adelaide this weekend, but with a top-heavy playing list and substantial rain forecast for the game, FIVEaa Breakfast’s Will Goodings wasn’t buying it.

“You’re playing, aren’t you?” Will asked Ollie on Friday morning. “You’re coming in late. An hour-and-a-half before the game we’re going to hear you’re in, aren’t we?”

Ollie said:

“Not at this stage. At this stage I’ll be playing Sunday [in the SANFL]. If anything happens today at captain’s run or before the start of the game there’s a few emergencies on hand to perhaps come in, but we’ll wait and see what happens. At the moment I’m pencilled in for Sunday.

“It was the opinion of the coaches that through my injury interrupted year it was better for me to have one in the SANFL to blow the cobwebs out… hopefully if I can do that I can come back into the team next week… wherever I play I’ll be happy.”

Later, coach Ken Hinkley told media this week’s team selection “is respectful of the team performance against Essendon”.

“Ollie Wines is an important part of our team, but we played really well as a unit last week.”
