FIVEaa Breakfast’s David Penberthy has weighed into the spat around CFMEU boss John Setka, labelling the under fire union figure a “Neanderthal”.

“This guy should be in a glass cabinet. He’s a museum piece,” Penbo said on Wednesday. “What a Neanderthal.”

Setka is under fire after reportedly making disparaging comments about anti-violence campaigner Rosie Batty, but on Wednesday morning was refusing to step down.

“There’s actually going to be potentially interesting repercussions for South Australia out of this,” Penbo said earlier. “There was a bloke here called Aaron Cartledge who for more than 30 years was a member of the CFMEU locally… he was the state secretary up until a couple of years ago and Setka and all his yahoo mates from Victoria basically overtook the South Australian branch.”

“Setka was here on holidays at Christmas 2016 and he went off his tree that the first thing he saw when he arrived in Adelaide at Christmastime was CFMEU members working. He saw all these building sites around Adelaide and his head exploded… he wrote this expletive-laden email, sent it around nationally calling Aaron Cartledge and the other South Australians ‘f---ing weak c---s for the fact there were workers going about there business…

“Within months Cartledge had been sidelined. He’d been kicked out effectively of the state branch… and it’s been taken over since then by much more hard-line Victorian-aligned radical union bosses, which is why the union here has had all these fines.

“If Setka goes, what does it mean for the South Australian branch?”
