Sunrise host David Koch says many of Michael Jackson’s high profile friends must have had “an inkling” something wasn’t right after new child abuse accusations were made against the late performer in the ‘Leaving Neverland’ documentary series.

On Tuesday’s FIVEaa Breakfast Kochie quoted a line from the film Spotlight: “‘If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to hide an abuser.’ It was such a powerful comment,” he said.

“How many people in Michael Jackson’s cohort, amongst his friends, including Oprah on this who has come out with some very powerful interviews of late, but back at the time she must’ve known, there must have been indications that something wasn’t quite right...

“They can all come out shocked and horrified now, but I hope they’re all just having a look at themselves to think, ‘Were there indications there that I ignored really quickly and was it on me as well that I didn’t have the guts to stand up to somebody like that and to point it out or to alert authorities?’

“… so many people would’ve had an inkling and did nothing about it. It’s the same within the Catholic Church -- cries for help, accusations, completely ignored because of the status of the offenders involved.

“It makes you cry for those kids who have carried it for their entire lives.”
