Almost All Of SA’s Energy Was Supplied By Renewables This Month

Pretty much all of South Australia’s power came from solar while the state was disconnected from the national grid, reports FIVEaa Breakfast’s David Penberthy.

Penbo said during Wednesday’s Breaking @ 8 segment:

“Over the last three weeks South Australia met pretty much all of its energy needs purely through solar power with the addition of the minimum required amount of gas to keep the system stable…

“Solar energy alone, and we’re talking rooftop solar here… with the addition of a small amount of gas provided all of the state’s energy needs. They even turned off wind farms for that period from 1 February until this week because they were worried that the excessive amount of energy that was being generated through wind could have actually overloaded the system.

“So all those panels that you’ve got on the roof of your house kept South Australia going, which is an extraordinary result…

“A pretty interesting result in terms of the role that renewables played in keeping the state chugging along.”
