A Worker Was Injured On A Big Adelaide Building Site Yesterday

A construction worker injury on an Adelaide building site on Wednesday has increased tensions within the industry, which is “about to blow up big time”, reports FIVEaa Breakfast’s David Penberthy.

Penbo said during Thursday’s Breaking @ 8 segment:

“A really regrettable and troubling accident that occurred yesterday in a building site in Adelaide. It’s our understanding that a worker was injured yesterday at the Palumbo site in the city. That is the new Sofitel hotel that is being built ion Currie Street.”

Penbo said he didn’t know the circumstances, but that the accident has further strained relationships in the SA building industry. He quoted from a statement from the CFMEU’s Andrew Sutherland:

“He has come out all guns blazing in this statement about safety standards in South Australia,” Penbo said. “He says: ‘There is a toxic attitude to safety held by too many South Australian builders who know that the regulator is unlikely to properly investigate safety breaches let alone take action against them…’

“The union is muscling up for a massive fight,” Penbo said.
