A Private Adelaide Hospital Is CLOSING Its Obstetrics Ward

Mar 15, 2019

11:05am -- CONFIRMED:

Flinders Private Hospital is shutting down its obstetrics unit, reports FIVEaa Breakfast’s David Penberthy.

Penbo said during Friday’s Breaking @ 8 segment:

“This is a massive, massive story that is going to effect so many families in South Australia, particularly families and mums to be in the southern suburbs.

“We have learnt in the past half hour that on the 31st of July Flinders Private Hospital is apparently going to be shutting down its obstetrics ward. The reason is costs… apparently the privately owned hospital has made a commercial decision that it is no longer financially viable to offer obstetrics.

“Hundreds and hundreds possibly thousands of babies are born there every year. Our understanding is that obstetricians started calling Adelaide mums yesterday -- women who are two, three, four, five months pregnant saying you’ve got to find a new hospital. That’s incredibly stressful for those women. And what pressures are going to pop up elsewhere in the health system?

“Huge story.”
