Superstitions about Friday the 13th stretch back to the Middle Ages, says Clare Maxfield.

“They were talking about Christ and the Last Supper and there were 13 at it and it was on the 13th,” Clare told FIVEaa on Friday.

“Then the next day was Good Friday, which wasn’t so good as we know in the end… then around the Middle Ages Philip IV of France arrested all the Knights of the Templar on Friday the 13th -- so it started getting a bit of bad press around then.

“And it was recently (1907) -- Thomas Lawson wrote the book ‘Friday, The Thirteenth’ and it was all about how there was a huge Wall St crash on Friday the 13th and since then people have been nervous.”
