City Councillor Anne Moran has savaged an Adelaide Oval bid for permission to permanently sell alcohol outside the ground.

“This is a very cynical move by the SMA in my opinion to do what they always wanted to do -- to wring more money out of the oval,” Ms Moran told FIVEaa on Thursday.

“This is seven days a week, every day of the year and it will expand because they need to make money.

“I’ve never heard of the reason that we have to accommodate smokers. They must be the only sporting stadium in the world that does that.”

CEO Andrew Daniels denied the SMA was trying to expand by stealth.

“I’d be more than happy to talk with the council -- all we want to do is do what we’re currently doing on game day… with no complaints from anybody.”
