AFL Draft Guru Takes A Look At What Adelaide Could Do With Pick 1

2 min read

“Can the Crows possibly stuff this up?”

AFL draft expert Kevin Sheahan says there are four obvious choices for the number one pick in this year’s draft – but admits “there’s a few complexities to it”.

Top draft prospect Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

Asked on Rowey’s Sports Show this week if the Crows could “possibly stuff this up with pick one”, Sheahan said:

“There’s a few complexities to it. What I can say is surely there’s just four players they’re debating at the minute… on pure talent the three tall players from around Australia: Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Riley Thilthorpe and Logan McDonald – all very creditable number ones, and throw in a kid called Elijah Holland…

“They’re the four I think that are all well qualified to be called as the best young player in the nation.

“Then you’ve got the complexity that if Jamarra is called the Western Bulldogs because he’s from their area they can then claim him, match the bid and take him as the number on player.

“It’s up to Adelaide to exercise what they think is the best way to go… I’m not going to tell the Crows what to do… any of those four will do for me…”

And assuming Bulldogs take Ugle-Hagan: “If you want the guy that can ruck as well as play forward that’s Thilthorpe. If you want the pure forward that’s McDonald,” said Sheahan.
