Port Adelaide star Hamish Hartlett says he has fallen into a cycle of “negative self-talk” and will use his time back in the SANFL this week to “relieve a bit of stress and mental pressure”.

Hammer was left out of PAFC’s AFL side this week, and he told FIVEAA Breakfast’s David & Will on Friday:
“My form’s been inconsistent, not great, not as good as I would’ve liked from a personal point of view. Over the last few weeks I’ve been heaping this pressure and expectation on myself to play better and better and better and when I haven’t that’s caused mental anguish I guess for myself.
“We feel like that combined with a bit of form is a good opportunity for me to get back and play Magpies and relieve a bit of stress and mental pressure…
“Recently I’m falling into this negative self-talk cycle of focusing on the things I’m not doing really well instead of the few things in the game that I am doing well. That’s compounding the issue.
“There’s a few things I need to put in place to get back on track from a mental point of view.”
