FIVEAA’s Stephen Rowe says a rule is a rule amid reports Adelaide Crows captain Chelsea Randall will apply for a release to allow her to play in the AFLW Grand Final.
LISTEN HERE:
Randall copped a heavy knock in the first quarter of Adelaide’s win over Melbourne on Saturday and was ruled out of the rest of the match with concussion.
Rowey told David & Will on Monday’s FIVEAA breakfast show:
“A little bit of a farce is brewing for me I think. There’s a new 12-day concussion protocol. It’s going to cost Chelsea Randall a grand final.
“Sad for the skipper, tough for the Crows team, but this was a welfare rule that everyone abides by.
“I’m led to believe she’s having a cognitive assessment today. If she passes that they will apply for her to get a release to play in the grand final.
“Sad for everybody, I get it, but if it’s a rule it’s a rule. If it’s a protocol it’s a protocol. There’s no ifs buts or candy nuts.”
PENBO: “I agree with that. It’s not like you’re going to have less effects from concussion because you’re about to play a grand final. It’s a hard and fast rule based on the health advice.”
