Crows Beat Melbourne Without Winning Any Key Stats, Says Stephen Rowe

2 min read

“To beat a team where you lose hit outs by 22 - that midfield deserves a big pat on the back.”

FIVEAA’s Stephen Rowe says the Adelaide Crows midfield “deserves a big pat on the back” as he breaks down both Adelaide and Port’s one-point wins over the weekend on FIVEAA Breakfast.

LISTEN HERE:

Rowey told David & Will on Monday:

“[Crows] lost inside 50s, hitouts, clearances, contested ball. Melbourne took 11 marks inside their 50, more in the back half, they had the three best players on the ground by far – Oliver’s second half you had to see to believe, Gawn and Petracca – the only stat Crows won or equalled was the frees…

“This is the thing for me. Crows didn’t beat Demons because they didn’t turn up. Cows beat Demons playing close to their best and that’s the pleasing thing. It was a total teal effort. It was outstanding. To beat a team where you lose hit outs by 22 that midfield deserves a big pat on the back.”

Turning to Port Adelaide’s one-point win over Collingwood, Rowey said the club “played poorly and won”:

“And you’ll take that. They just found a way to win. I loved Charlie Dixon’s last quarter…

“[Port] were smashed in ruck as well. Magpies were plus 31 for hitouts. You do not win games against them when they get that sort of dominance but the midfield of Port Adelaide found a way…

“It was a scrappy win, they’ll take it. They sit equal third on the ladder with seven wins.”
