Graham Cornes says he’s heard a whisper a Port Adelaide premiership champion will be SA’s next member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
2020 Hall of Fame announcements are being made this week, 1-4 June.
Cornesy told Rowey & Bicks on Monday’s FIVEAA sports show:
“I don’t know, I’ve only heard…
“Andrew Jarman, Garry McIntosh, Michael Taylor – but the one I’ve heard – am I allowed to say it? – I don’t know, I haven’t been told officially, and it’s one I always overlook when we sit down and write these lists: a Port Adelaide player – Greg Phillips.
“None of those people aren’t worthy of being in there, Greg Philips is equally worthy as anyone for being inducted into the Hall of Fame, but there’s so many others who deserve to be there.
“I probably would’ve had Andrew Jarman because of his Magarey medals, he played AFL footy and five Fos Williams medals in a state game, but I don’t think it’s him.
“It’s only a guess, we’ll have to wait and see, but I would be rapt for Greg Phillips. You guys were both there when he started training with us at the Crows. We were all disappointed when he said, nah, I’m going back to Port Adelaide. He would’ve been great at the Crows.”
Phillips was a Port Adelaide captain and best and fairest winner and eight-time premiership player.
