UPDATE, 10:59am: Police Commissioner Grant Stevens has told FIVEAA’s Leon Byner he is “sad to say” there are “no changes” following today’s Transition Committee meeting today.
Commissioner Stevens said there were no changes recommended to current border restrictions and a discussion about public activities ended with no changes.
“We really are at this point hanging on for people to get vaccinated so we can make some positive changes to those directions,” he said.

Mask rules for schools are chance of easing when the state’s Transition Committee meets today, reports FIVEAA Breakfast’s David Penberthy.
Penbo said during Tuesday’s Breaking @ 8 segment:
“There’s a rising expectation that today’s Transition Committee meeting could potentially be a big one in terms of further reductions. One of the things that is being discussed is mask use, particularly for school children…
“It’s sounding like in the school context there’s a very real likelihood there could be some sort of relaxing of the mask rules which currently hold that any kid over 12 – which is pretty much everyone at high school – has to wear masks in class.
“Don’t be surprised if that changes.”
According to a report in The Advertiser:
The transition committee will on Tuesday debate public activities and border rules, during which it is expected officials will discuss the potential easing of masks.
The committee will consult health advice before deciding whether changes should be recommended to Police Commissioner, and state Covid co-ordinator, Grant Stevens.
Business and community leaders last week called for mandatory mask use, which also includes public transport, to be reviewed.
