Syrian bombing mistake is a wake up call

1 min read

It’s amazing we haven’t had more airstrike mix ups in Syria, says a geopolitical expert.

The comments come after Malcolm Turnbull admitted Australian planes were involved in an ill-directed bombing — reportedly killing 60 Syrian government troops.

“Unfortunately this goes to show that in an active war zone mistakes are likely to happen,” Dr John Bruni tells FIVEAA.

LISTEN HERE:

“We put so much faith in technology these days, we almost take for granted the fact that satellite information is working seamlessly all the time and the operators are always switched on and no mistakes can ever be made …

“We’re lucky that we’ve been able to avoid such mistakes in the past. Things are getting worse in the Syrian battle space.

“It’s a messy, messy campaign.”
