Australian singer and actor Jon English has died, surrounded by his family, after complications from surgery.
English found fame in the 1970s playing Judas in the Australian version of the stage musical Jesus Christ Superstar and picked up a Logie Award for best new talent in 1979 for his starring role in Australian TV series Against the Wind.

In the 1990s, English starred in Australian sitcom All Together Now alongside current Today show weatherman Steve Jacobs.
“He was such a talented performer and such a gentleman,” Jacobs said.
“He lived his life like a rock star — he was larger than life.”
Rebecca Gibney, another All Together Now co-star, tweeted her sympathies.
English’s recent poor health was documented on his Facebook page where he apologised to fans for having to cancel shows.

A message posted three days ago read:
“He apologies to all his fans who were looking forward to the day, but assures everyone he will be back to full health and rocking out on stage with you all again very soon (he is in fact itching to do so!).”
He was set to tour Australia from May starting in Perth.
Jon English was 66.
