People love to say these things to sound smart…
There’s only one problem: they’re not true! Let’s set the record straight.
1. Bats are not actually blind
Even though they mostly use echolocation, bats can see with their eyes. Why would they evolve eyes that don’t work?
2. Fortune cookies were not invented by the Chinese
They were invented by a Japanese man living in America.
3. The Bible never says how many wise men there were
Scholars assume it was three because that’s how many gifts were given to baby Jesus.
4. The Great Wall of China cannot actually be seen from space
If it could, you would be able to see every major highway too.
5. Houseflies do not have an average lifespan of 24 hours
Although some species of mayflies do, the average lifespan of a housefly is 15 to 30 days.
6. Goldfish don’t have a memory span of three seconds
Proof: ever seen fish gather at the top of a tank because they think food is coming?
7. Albert Einstein didn’t fail math
Ever heard this one? Well, Einstein had actually mastered calculus by the age of 15:
Einstein laughed. “I never failed in mathematics,” he replied, correctly. “Before I was fifteen I had mastered differential and integral calculus.”
