UPDATE (1:20pm) — The SES advises that significant flooding is expected to hit Gawler and surrounds.
Suburbs which may be impacted include Hillier, Gawler River, Angle Vale, Penfield Gardens, Two Wells, Lewiston, Virginia, Port Gawler and Buckland Park.
Water levels are continually rising in the Gawler River and flooding is already occurring. The river is expected to break its banks later today.
EARLIER
The SES has issued a MAJOR flood warning for the Gawler River Catchment area.
In a warning issued on Friday, SES advised moderate to major flooding was occurring along the North Para River, South Para River and the Gawler River at Gawler Township.
It said a further 10-15mm of rain was possible on Friday – and expects flooding to continue into Saturday.
There is also major flooding occurring along the North Para between Nuriootpa and Turrefield Dam
Minor flooding is occurring along the North Para above Nuriootpa – but will ease throughout Friday.
The SES also advises that the South Para reservoir is spilling.
People are advised to keep away from fast flowing water and call the SES on 132 500 or emergency assistance – or dial 000 for life-threatening emergencies.
