Senator Nick Xenophon has confirmed on FIVEAA that he will run a candidate in outgoing Liberal member Isobel Redmond’s state seat of Heysen.
“Isobel leaving obviously leaves a vacuum in that seat,” Nick told FIVEAA brekkie on Thursday. “I think that vacuum could well be filled by a really solid candidate that I’ll be supporting, and that Rebekha Sharkie will be supporting.”
“We haven’t got a candidate in mind or lined up yet, but we should do by the middle of the year.”

Xenophon paid tribute to Ms Redmond…
“She is a person who I have very high regard for,” he said. “Rebekha Sharkie, the member for Mayo, actually worked with Isobel for quite a while and has enormous regard for her.”
But he rejected the suggestions Martin Hamilton-Smith could run as a Xenophon candidate at the 2018 state election.
“The short answer is no, for the simple reason that Martin will run his own race.
“He already has a very strong profile. He’ll be running as an independent liberal, that’s how he badges himself.
“He wont be a candidate for us, he’ll be doing his own thing.”
