Port Adelaide high performance manager Darren Burgess’s midseason exit from the club would be a massive blow, says past player Kane Cornes.

The Advertiser reports that Burgess will leave Port Adelaide at the end of the month to take up a seven-figure offer at Arsenal in the English Premier League.

Speaking on the Sunday Footy Show, Kane Cornes said:

“If he has to leave, it’s almost as big as losing your coach mid-season.

“That’s how important these people are. This would be a massive blow for Port Adelaide. He’s a genius.”

Responsibility for Port Adelaide’s on-field program is expected to fall to Burgess’ protégés Ian McKeown and Stuart Graham.
