Asbestos has been found in Chinese-made equipment bound for Port Pirie’s smelter redevelopment.
Safework SA has issued a “prohibition notice” for an area around “tainted” heat exchanger tubes, reports ABC News.
The smelter revamp is worth $514 million and was expected to be finished later this year.
The asbestos find follows similar stories of the banned material being found in products sourced from China for a Perth children’s hospital and a Brisbane high-rise.
