Three people have died after a boat capsized

UPDATE – Wednesday 27 March, 7:27am: Police have confirmed three people have died after a boat capsized in waters off Port Lincoln.

According to SAPOL:

Just after 8.30pm on Monday 25 March, police were alerted after five people who set off in a fishing vessel from Port Lincoln did not return.

Police Water Operations Unit and Port Lincoln Police launched a search, utilising resources from the local Sea Rescue.  PolAir and a Challenger aircraft from AUSSAR were also deployed.

Numerous messages across marine radio channels alerted vessels in the area to assist with the search.

About 2am today, Tuesday 26 March, PolAir located an upturned boat near Spilsby Island.

A 44-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy, both from Torrens Park, were located on a reef and winched to safety.  They were taken to hospital where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

About 6.30am this morning, a third person from the boat was located deceased in the vicinity.

Just after 9am a fourth person was located deceased, also in the vicinity of the vessel.

At about 2.15pm today the fifth and final person from the overturned vessel was located deceased.

Police are now preparing reports for the coroner.

UPDATE, 10:39am: Police have confirmed one person has been located deceased in the water.

The search for the missing two people continues.

Two others were earlier rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

Police and emergency services are searching waters near Port Lincoln for missing boat crew members.
