Police Are Investigating Two Suspicious Fires In Adelaide

Police are investigating separate suspicious fires in Christies Beach and Kent Town overnight.

According to SAPOL:

Police and fire crews responded to reports of a unit fire in Davis Avenue, Christies Beach at 3.30am on Monday 19 September.

The fire completely destroyed one unit and spread to the adjoining unit on each side, causing significant damage to both units.

The fire was extinguished by MFS crews and Forensic Response officers attended to examine the scene.

The occupant of the middle unit sustained minor burns.  There were no other reported injuries.

The 72-year-old Christies Beach man was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre for treatment.

He is currently speaking with Southern District CIB detectives and is expected to be arrested and charged with arson this morning.

It is anticipated that he will face the Christies Beach Magistrates Court tomorrow, Tuesday 20 September.

Meanwhile in Kent Town:

About 2.50am on Monday 19 September, police and emergency services were called to Rundle Street at Kent Town after reports of an unoccupied unit on fire.

Residents from adjoining units were evacuated however MFS crews were quickly on scene and contained the fire to a bedroom and fortunately no structural damage was caused to the unit.

Crime Scene Investigators attended the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Eastern District Detectives are investigating the fire and are asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area this morning or has information that may assist with the investigation to please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
