A cheeky Tony Pilkington quip has earned the radio veteran a rap over the knuckles from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
The PM was in town to sign the deal with DCNS to build submarines here in Adelaide…
When Pilko finally* got around to asking the Prime Minister about it, Mr Turnbull said the investment “benefits all of Australia, Pilko, it’s not just Adelaide.”
Pilko: “We really don’t care about the rest, Prime Minister.”
PM: “Well I do, I absolutely do — so we’ll have to disagree on that.”
LISTEN HERE:
*Before turning to the subs deal, Pilko engaged the PM in a fascinating (and detailed) walk down memory lane, covering several aspect’s of Mr Turnbull’s former lives… including defending British spy Peter Wright and signing on as Kerry Packer’s lawyer at age 28.
Five minutes into their chat, Pilko started to feel the heat:
“My producer’s looking through the window with daggers. She’s saying, ‘You stupid old wanker, you’re supposed to be talking to the Prime Minster about the submarines.”
Gotta love the great man.
