Former Carlton and Port Adelaide footballer Nick Stevens has been jailed for three months after admitting to domestic violence.
In court on Thursday Stevens admitted to repeatedly bashing his former partner, but begged to stay out of prison, according to the Herald Sun.
Stevens was charged with 30 offences for physical assaults on his former partner, but cut a deal to plead guilty to just three charges.
Stevens’ lawyer Sarah Keating had argued that a jail term was unwarranted.
“They’re not terrorism offences, it’s not a murder…they are offences that have resulted in bruising, a graze and a cut,” she said.
But Judge Damien Murphy said Stevens’ crimes were too serious.
Steven’s former partner previously accused him of attacking her when she threatened to leave him.
“I’m going to beat you to within an inch of your life c***,” he told her. “I’m going to kill you you dumb c***”.
