Uber says a survey it ran shows 64 per cent of South Australians have no idea taxi and ride share trips will attract a $1 levy — due to take effect from October 1.
“When they found out it was being introduced, a significant proportion — 67 per cent — opposed this new tax,” Uber’s Tom White tells FIVEAA.
“Anything that imposes arbitrary new costs on consumers… thereby making transport less affordable… is a bad thing for the community.
“This makes it less affordable for people, less accessible, and one of our concerns is the impact this might have on vulnerable members of the community taking a short trip to the train…
“All of a sudden that fare has increased by 15-20 per cent, which is fairly significant.”
