“Mr South Australia” himself Keith Conlon remembers the biggest run-in of his long radio career — with Premier Mike Rann.
“It flared up,” Keith told Pilko, who was on air with Keith during the blow up. “Suddenly towards the end of the interview it gets really steamed up.”
“He goes out the door and he’s really hot under the collar, stinking hot.
“I get out into the airlock, the producers section, and say to him: ‘Oh look, don’t get off your bike…’
“He thinks I said: ‘On your bike.’
“I was trying to say don’t get off your bike, Mike, it’s going to be ok.
“He thinks I’ve said on your bike. He just goes out the door and apparently just about ripped the lift apart he was so hot and bothered.”

Pilko had a slightly different memory of how things went down:
“You said get off your bike, goose, didn’t you? See Keith, you forget some of these salient points.”
But it wasn’t a laughing matter for Keith…
“I was going to be banned for life… and it worried the hell out of me. You blokes were all cheering.”
