Five years after leaving, Jon Blake is heading back to FIVEAA to do… well, he’s not sure.
“I’ve got no idea what I’m going to do,” Blakey — who won’t start at ‘aa until the end of March — tells The Advertiser. “That is exciting. Now I need to sit down and work out what I’m going to do. I have a few ideas already.”
“[FIVEAA] came to me and said, ‘Do you want to do an hour show four nights a week?’”
“I said ‘Yes, that sounds good’. I thought that sounded like fun. It happened quickly.”
Blakey will host an hour-long show, 7-8pm, four nights a week and contribute to FIVEAA brekkie with David Penberthy and Will Goodings next year.
Blakey on THAT comment…
When Blakey left ‘aa at the end of 2011, he famously said it was like “getting out of jail”.
“It felt like that at the time,” Blakey says now, “but that was different management, different people, now it’s a different thing and FIVEAA are now gorgeous and all made of cotton wool.”
FIVEAA Program Director Craig Munn said, “We’re thrilled to have Jon Blake return to FIVEAA where he started in 1995. Having known and worked with Jon for more than 20 years I truly think the FIVEAA listeners will celebrate the return of Blakey in a new and exciting role for the station.”
Jon celebrated 40 years in radio earlier this year and has had an impressive career working with many of the biggest names in radio. His comedy series ‘Behind Closed Doors’ ran for more than 10 years on FIVEAA.
