Internet erupts over new selfie trend

1 min read

Creepy? Unhealthy? Or just a bit of fun?

The “Belly Button Test” is the latest ridiculous craze to sweep the internet but what exactly is it?

Teenagers around the world (particularly in China, where the challenge has taken Weibo – China’s Twitter – by storm) are challenging themselves to see who can touch their belly button….by first reaching their hand around their back.

Apparently it’s meant to prove a combination of tiny waist size and crazy flexibility and ~ SUPPOSEDLY ~ comes from some unnamed study from the US (that NO ONE seems able to reference) stating that women who can complete it have good bodies and those who can’t need to lose weight*.

*NOT ACTUAL MEDICAL OR SCIENCE-BASED ADVICE

Not everyone who does it is a tiny girl though – this male Weibo user has become something of a pinup boy for the movement:

He later admitted to faking it with the help of a friend though.

His caption reads “I just wanted to prove that fat people can do it too!”

Here are some of the many Instagrammers who’ve attempted the challenge so far.
