UPDATE 11:03am 25/01/2021:

The Cherry Gardens fire in the Adelaide Hills has been downgraded to a watch and act.

Previously reported:

The Country Fire Service has classified the Cherry Gardens/Hicks Hill Road bushfire as Emergency status.

The CFS has issued the emergency warning for Longwood, Mylor and Biggs Flat in Mount Lofty Ranges.

“This fire may pose a threat to lives directly in its path,” the CFS website reads.

“Act now. Leave, if the path is clear to a safer place, as it will soon be too dangerous to drive.

“If you cannot leave, identify where you will seek shelter from the bushfire. Heat from the fire will kill you. Do not enter this area as conditions are dangerous.

“The CHERRY GARDENS, HICKS HILL ROAD fire is uncontrolled. This scrub fire is burning in a North Easterly direction towards Longwood, Mylor and Biggs Flat. Conditions are continually changing.

“CFS is currently experiencing continually changing wind conditions. This may cause the fire to change direction unexpectedly.

“People in the area should leave now or prepare to defend their homes before the wind changes direction.

“Power, water and mobile phone services may be lost. Road conditions may become very dangerous over the next few hours.

Fire fighters may soon be unable to prevent the fire spreading.”

An emergency warning and a watch and act message were in place for locations under threat at 9:39pm last night – including Hicks Hill Road, Orchard Road, Lewis Street, Frith Road near Cherry Gardens.

On Sunday night the scrub fire was burning “in a North Easterly direction towards Strathalbyn Road Echunga, Strathalbyn Road Mylor, Biggs Flat”… and “towards Heathfield, Upper Sturt, Aldgate, Bridgewater, Stirling, and Echunga. Conditions are continually changing”.
