Brisbane mother Hannah Baxter expressed relief she “got out when I did” after leaving the man who would later kill her and their three children in a murder-suicide that shocked the country on Wednesday.

Hannah and her children Aaliyah, 6, Laianah, 4 and Trey, 3, were killed when Rowan Baxter deliberately set fire to their car and then took his own life.

According to The Courier-Mail, Hannah messaged a female confidant and relative of Rowan’s earlier this month after splitting from Rowan in November last year.

“I’m so glad I got out when I did,” Hannah wrote to the woman.

“I’m OK, struggling, but I know I’ve made the right decision.

“I’m safe, I’m with my parents who are very, very normal. I’m just so glad I got out when I did. And I’m so glad you reached out to me.”

Hannah’s distraught family have spoken out about the lengths they went to keep Hannah and her three children safe from “monster” Rowan in the lead up to their tragic deaths.
