Free childcare will be offered to working Australian parents, the prime minister announced on Thursday.
According to 7 News:
About one million parents are expected to benefit from the measure, which is expected to keep an estimated 13,000 child centres from folding as the coronavirus pandemic progresses.
“Childcare and early childhood education is critical,” Scott Morrison said.
Under the plan, the government will pay 50 per cent of each childcare centre’s fee revenue, but only on condition the centre remains open and does not charge families for care.
Morrison said the funding would apply from Sunday night, and centres would be paid according to the number of children who were in care during the fortnight leading up to March 2.
