The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a FLOOD WARNING for the Onkaparinga River, saying the river may overflow by Thursday morning.
57mm of rain has been recorded in the Onkaparinga catchment since 9am Wednesday, and a further 40-80mm is expected in the Mt Lofty Ranges during Thursday and Friday.
The BOM has also issued a flood watch for the state’s mid north, Mt Lofty Ranges and Adelaide metro area.
“There is a risk of rapidly rising water levels and flooding in creeks and rivers across the Watch area, in particular in the Mid North and the Mount Lofty Ranges from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday and into Friday,” the bureau said.
A SEVERE weather warning for damaging winds has also been issued for the bulk of the state, including:
Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Flinders, Mid North, Riverland, North West Pastoral, North East Pastoral and parts of the Murraylands districts.
The SES advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
The warnings follow the incident on Wednesday afternoon that knocked out the state’s entire power supply and left SA in darkness overnight.
