Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has urged states that currently have border restrictions to lift them so that the economy from benefit from the tourism jobs that reopening will create.
Mr Frydenberg told Sunrise on Friday:
“70 per cent of the tourism dollar is actually a domestic tourism spend, so it’s critically important that we lift those border restrictions.
“I say to the leaders of Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia: lift those borders.
“There’s no medical advice that says those borders should be closed and Australians will start to get back into their great habits of travelling around the country. That in accordance with the medical advice will see more jobs come back into the economy.”
