FIVEAA Breakfast’s David Penberthy has made comparisons to the shocking death of Jill Meagher after a 103-page report into the death of outback nurse Gayle Woodford was handed down in SA on Thursday.
Penbo said during Friday’s Breaking @ 8 segment:
“There are some really serious questions that this report raises. Without any sense of overstatement you can say for the criminal justice system – the way it operates here – this is comparable to what happened in Victoria with the murder of Jill Meagher.”
Penbo said it was clear the killer’s “violence towards women was lifelong and escalating” and also said the report raises “serious questions for SAPOL”.
“One of the unnerving features of the report was that at the time he committed the offence against Gayle Woodford there was a warrant out for his arrest but due to some oversight within SAPOL the warrant was never executed…
“I’m not having a crack at the departments or the heath council or the police for not having responded yet. I think it’s totally fine with a report of this magnitude they say we need more time. They don’t need to make decisions in haste but they do not need to make serious decisions… things have to change.”
