Barossa Local Says People Are “Numb” After The Region Was Sealed Off

1 min read

Barossa businessman James Wohler says locals are “on edge” after schools and kindies in the area were shut down and travel restricted after the famous tourist region was identified as a trouble spot for COVID-19 in South Australia.

James told FIVEAA Breakfast’s David & Will on Monday:

“We are all feeling very numb. The shock of it starting last week when the tourists and the effects that had — really started the spiral of it and last night’s late decision was another step forward. That’s lead to the unprecedented decision by Wohlers to close our store today.”

James said locals were “absolutely” annoyed after a number of tourists who visited the region were confirmed to have the virus.

“I look at the Barossa Valley and guys and girls I went to school with who run tours, run restaurants, grape growers, wine makers, retail — they’ve all been affected.

“The cost of this is into the millions of dollars and the health side of it is just appalling. It’s putting us all on edge.”
