Bad news for Paul McCartney fans

2 min read

Musical legend Paul McCartney has confirmed he will tour Australia and New Zealand later this year… but Adelaide’s been left off the list.

“Look, I would have loved to have had Paul McCartney for six weeks and put on a show in Adelaide, a show in Tasmania,” promoter Michael Gudinski said.

“If I could have done that, I would have. I know that it’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it is.”

According to a Mr Gudinski’s office:

“Paul McCartney was only available for a certain period of time for the Australia-New Zealand tour. The logistics of moving a show of this size and the availability of dates ultimately dictated the markets that could be included on this tour.”

The former Beatle will play in Perth’s on December 2, Melbourne on December 5, Brisbane on December 9 and Sydney on December 11 before moving on to Auckland.

It’s not the first time Sir Paul has overlooked Adelaide. The city was originally left off The Beatles 1964 Australian tour until a petition pushed by the late Bob Francis changed the promoter’s mind.

McCartney has told News Corp he has great memories of that tour.

“When we were in Melbourne we were staying at a hotel called the Southern Cross, we were on a balcony seeing thousands of people, it was amazing, we’d never seen that many people turn out for us,” he said. “A girl climbed up the outside of the Southern Cross Hotel. Can you imagine that? She was a good climber!”

“I haven’t had a chance to get down there for years.

“I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time, finally it’s happening.”
