Melbourne man Jared Hyams has been allowed to have a drawing of a penis appear as his signature on his Victorian driver’s license.
Mr Hymas first used his “penis signature” on an Australian Electoral Commission form as a joke several years ago, and has spent the last five years trying to use it on all his official documents.

“I thought it would be a laugh, they would approve it and next year I would sign something different,” Mr Hymas has told The Age newspaper.
“But when I did this signature all of a sudden I was receiving letters and phone calls telling me I couldn’t’ have it. I thought, that’s interesting, why not?
“It sparked something in me, I didn’t understand if these people were offended or had taken it personally.”

Mr Hymas says the experience inspired him to start studying law and he has successfully had his unique signature appear on a number of documents, including his health card, library card and students cars as well as on bank documents.

But the Department of Trade and Foreign Affairs have denied him a passport, saying the signature could be considered as sexual harassment towards staff.
