A Man Has Breached Medi-Hotel And Spent Eight Hours In The Adelaide CBD

2 min read

Police says there is a no risk to the community at this time…

An international arrival deliberately breached hotel security and spent a number of hours in Adelaide from 10pm Thursday.

According to SAPOL:

The man arrived in Adelaide on 3 August 2021 and immediately went into the Grand Chancellor Hotel medi-hotel in Adelaide.

The man is not COVID-19 positive, after receiving negative test results on days 1, 5 and 9. He was again tested this morning and has returned another negative COVID-19 test. There is a no risk to the community from this person at this time.

It has been determined that the man has been in the Adelaide CBD for about eight hours and returned voluntarily to the medi-hotel at around 6am this morning.

State Coordinator and Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens said: “It is disappointing that despite our robust security arrangements for our medi-hotels, this breach of security occurred.

“There have been about 22,000 guests in our medi-hotel program throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and this is the first time we have seen such a breach.

“I would like to reiterate that there is no known risk to the community, and South Australians should not be alarmed.

“A senior officer has been assigned to investigate the circumstances of this security breach and the outcome of that investigation will be provided once it is completed in the coming days.

“Action against this man regarding the breach of quarantine conditions will be addressed as a part of the investigation.

“We will continue to work to maintain the high standard of security in our medi-hotels and will implement any identified changes to restrict future similar breaches of security.”
