Two Cyclists In Viral ‘Bike Path’ Abuse Video Were Off-Duty Cops

Jan 31, 2019

A driver who filmed two cyclists as he drove his own vehicle along a shared use path had no idea the cyclists he was abusing were off-duty police officers.

The video was taken in Jamberoo, NSW, on Australia Day and quickly went viral around the country.

In the vision Thomas Harris, 27, can be heard abusing the riders:

"What's the point of us spending this money if you’re not going to use it [the shared path], you f---ing d---heads.

"F--- off, f---ing idiot. Use the f---ing bike track, you dumb c---."

According to Fairfax, Illawarra police maintain the off-duty officers were not breaking any laws.

"The two cyclists, from the video, appear to be abiding by the road rules," Acting Inspector Lee Ingmire said.

"Regardless of whatever the bicycles are doing on the road, it doesn’t justify what the driver did.

"He's on the path like a good hundred metres before he approaches the bicycles. The bike riders haven't had the opportunity to drop back to a single lane."
